Prayer Songs
Another part of Pete's interest in music has been in writing worship songs, a few of which are now used in the school. Some are based on prayers written by David Adam, formerly minister of Holy Island (Lindisfarne) in Northumbria, England, and are in a Celtic style. (He did give me permission to use them.) Download and use them, if they appeal to you. There's a document with all the words here.
David Adam prayers
Circle me, Lord
Based on a Celtic prayer, where you draw a circle around yourself and ask for God to keep you in peace. "Circle me, Lord, circle me, Lord, Keep peace within, keep evil out."
You, Lord, are in this place
This is a simple, repetitive prayer which we use a lot in staff and student worship. "You, Lord, are in this place, Your presence fills it, Your presence is peace."
Thou art the peace
The tune is based on a traditional Scottish air, I think. At least, it's too nice for me to have entirely invented it.
The Lord is with us
A good blessing for the end of the day. "The Lord is with us, With wisdom to guide us, With peace to refresh us, The Lord is with us.
Light of God
A lilting tune in 3/4 time. "This night and evermore, Light of God".
Other songs
Freedom
This is a folky prayer song I wrote for a chapel at Woodstock. It's about personal freedom versus the chains that so many people find themselves in. (2008)
You have searched me
A setting of Psalm 139. A simple tune which I think supports the words well. (2004, an old recording)
Let me sing
We use this quite a bit in staff and student services and house groups. (2004, an old recording)
